Prelium Task and Evaluation
Evalutation
From this activity, we have learned how to incorporate different types of shots for example 180 degrees rule, match on action and a shot reverse shot. Two of us filmed the two parts and two of us were in the production which allowed us to try role that we wanted. We filmed the sequence in different parts, using different camera shots in order for us to create continuity and smoothness to our product. Also, this gave us a starting point of knowing how to film effectively especially a 'conversation' and to apply these skills knowledge to our actual opening.

Opening Ideas
Opening Ideas
- The opening should consists of long shots of the city (Setting)
- The guy is getting ready to propose to the girl but we see that his phone is vibrating whilst his girlfriends is calling him, but he blocks it and calls the restaurant to prepare for the reservation for the night he has planned for her and the adrenaline kicks of with a series of 'non diegetic sound; and jump cuts of him getting ready to build the anticipation in the beginning.
- We could start a time lapse of the city with a depressing piano music and then we go to the main character as he narrates his story about being heartbroken and flashback to all the happy memories he had with the girlfriend and then back to reality of how he is showing how much his life change (loosing his job etc.) "How could you move on from a long term relationship?" and then thats when the beginning ends.
- It starts off of with the guy shouting, and begging on the phone and he gets angry, there is a series of shots of him drinking, smashing bottles on the ground whilst his best friend drinks with him but then tells him to stop.
- An opening of a guy walking in the city streets ready to surprise his girlfriend, accopanied through an introduction of his girl bestfriend and then the girl breaks up with him.
- It could be home, walking on his way with a flower on his arms whilst he slouching with a bear on his hands, and he calls one of his best friends on the hone and then does a 'dramatic wall scene' (or maybe when he gets the break up message)
- It could start off with an argument of both couples whilst we can see that the guy has already prepared a lot for her but since the girl has been so aloof she says she cant make it again and the guy throws a tantrum and she ends up admitting that there's some else. (Two differnt shot os their convos) and whilst the call ends we get a series of timelaps of the sky whilst the guy sleeps on the sofa filed with beers around him and he calls her again but the calls have been blocked.

Analysis of Results ( Survey Monkey Audience)
Analysis of my Questionnaire at Survey Monkey
1)
Are
you a female or Male?
In a stereotypical film the majority of the target
audience are associated with women as romantic genres are known to be every
emotive and inspiring which women are known to be and what they expect from it.
Also, this is due to the society’s dominant ideology that women are represented
to be emotional and loves to talk about their ‘love life’ most of the time
which would make it more relatable for them. The results show that 67% were Females
and 32% were males. Even though, the majority of the audience are Females, I
plan to reach this questionnaire to a diverse to get a variety of answers to
help me create the opening of my film from a mixture of expectations. This is
because I will be switching gender roles of what a conventional romantic genres
are to my film opening. However, as the dominant ideology of men being smarter
than women, the main character in my synopsis will be a boy and since he will
the character that I will direct the audience’s attention he will be the one who
narrating the story to women and teach them a lesson about the realities of the
guys in the world. Therefore, having a mixed audience will able to give me an
impression of how they feel personally without having to mention names so that
I can portray my target audience’s expectations with a slight twist but have
the main stereotypical representations so that I’m able to appeal to wider range
of audience. Also, by having a mixture
of a female and male audience, this enables me to show their values and beliefs
to one another. For example: how nice
guys are usually interpreted.
2)
Specify
your age
The varies from 17-18-30+, This is because I aim to
appeal to an older audience this time which would inspire me to create a
narrative that would be more than just the conventional ‘teenage rom-com’ and
make it relatable to an older audience. Therefore, this suggests that my
narrative is needed to be ‘mature ‘and the age range in this topic makes
suggests that the settings of my opening should be from University to working
life. So that the audience are able to identify mise en scene to be familiar to
them because they associate themselves with this on the daily basis.
3)
Which
of the following best describes your current relationship status?
As we can see that most of my target
audience are single (58%), in a relationship (38%), married (0%). Some of the audience that are were maybe once
in a relationship or some may want to know what it feels like and through.
Therefore, I aim to bring back happy memories of being in a relationship and
rekindle these moments in their minds which would make it more relatable to
them to anticipate of what this love story will be like. We also have an
audience who are in a relationship, which helps me outline of what being in a relationship
feels like to them based on the later questions in my questionnaire
4)
Please
describe you Race/Ethnicity
A diverse community, this suggest
that my target audience will have a range of beliefs, opinions and values about
the characters and the way this love story will be set about the ‘romantic
genre’ and their expectations. Their beliefs and expectations will help me create
a variety of ideas to piece my opening and represent this through mainly the
character and their lifestyles.
5) Where do you stereotypically associate romantic films being set?
The
result shows that the most common setting was the ‘city’ (55%) because within
all the film opening texts that I have analysed where get a series of a very
long shot of cities in the beginning, which means that it’s very chaotic and
filled with drama as the city is mainly associated with different lifestyle and
people and in films it’s conventions are that people live in a very small world
which leads to possible conflicts which again creates enigma.
6) Who is often your favorite character in the romantic genre?
We are
able to see that the most appealing character ‘55%’ is the best friend followed
by the hopeless romantic ‘47%. This tells me that these two characters will be
seen in the film opening because they very significant to my target audience
and their expectation. I will have to make a narrative that will be based among
these characters playing a big part on each other’s lives.
7) Define the ‘Perfect Relationship’ that you usually associate with
the romantic genre or personal life?
For this questionnaire, I made it
into an open question so that my target audience can freely express their
personal opinion so that I am able to gather these ideas and generate a deeper
connection between through the characters that are mostly anticipated by the audience.
In this question, I was able to identify very conventional iconographies such
as ‘Expensive Romantic Dates’, ‘Love at first sight’, ‘Movie, dates and dinner’
and most importantly most of my target audience said that the perfect
relationship always starts off as friends and they later on become more than
friends and grow together of a perfect relationship. One of my ideas are to
show the ‘perfect relationship’ in the beginning as my synopsis will be based
about a guy who can’t move on from the ‘perfect relationship’ that he’s in
which is common for both female and male audiences.
8) Define your ‘ideal’ love interest in a film?
This is an open question so that I am
able to get a variety of answers and with the female answers we able to see
that their ideal man is: handsome, cute, funny, intelligent, humble and most
referred to the character ‘Noah’ from the notebook, and Mr Darcy because he
seems to be misunderstood.
9) Who do you usually like to watch romantic films with?
Most of my target audiences said
they like to watch with friends so that my whole opening has to be very memorable.
10) What was the most memorable heartbreak you've ever had? (If experienced and no names have to be specified)
This question was an open question to help
me from my narrative based on some real experiences since the main theme of my
film will be ‘heartache; this enables me to get different perspective so that I
will be able to show these experiences to show different types of ‘heartbreaking
events’ the most common ones were ‘rejection’, ‘betrayal’ and ‘cheating’.
